"Absence is Present" 2017
This series is an exploration of the palpable absence I experienced following my Fathers death. Using narrative symbols, separation and grief visualise my emotional response throughout this process. The Breast signifies the story of Cimon and Pero. In Roman Mythology, Pero breast feeds her dying Father, Cimon, whom has been sentenced to death. I liken this to my Fathers Cancer death sentence, and my willingness to have done anything to extend his life. The separation between life and death is manifest by the use of curtains. Draped over a sculpture, the fabric separates him from me. The concave mirror illustrates the circumstance of separate realities, separate to the one in which my Father now exists.
